Work with the Latino Center for Leadership Development
From 2017-2019 I served as a Policy Institute Fellow with the Latino Center Leadership Development (LCLD), a Dallas, TX nongovernmental organization focused on bringing Latino public policy issues to the forefront of local, state, and national politics.
In this role, I co-coordinated the “LCLD-Tower Center Latina/o Research Grant” program, which disbursed $180,000 in grants over three years to support academic research focused on issues of concern to Latino communities. For more information about the research we supported, click here: Latino Public Policy Grants Program - Policy Briefs.
Another aspect of my work with the LCLD involved public engagement. I served as a guest speaker on a panel focused on immigration policy during the LCLD’s Leadership Academy – a training program for individuals interested in promoting Latino public policy concerns in elected and appointed government positions.
I also served as the moderator for two public education events: “‘Gentefication’ - The Changing Face of Urban Development,” (click to watch) in January 2018, and “Public Charge & Voter Mobilization: Immigration Policy Concerns Debunked,” in February 2019. I selected and prepared the speakers and designed the content of each of these events, which involved facilitating dialogue between academics, policymakers, and nonprofit representatives.
